Not a bad combo of colours. I didnt want the card to look all halloween-y so here’s my take on it…..

I’m really lovin this PTI sentiment from the set ‘Out on a Limb- Sentiments’. This is the second time this week I’ve used it.

We had to incorporate squares in our design and so I took out my Stampin Up stamps  (oops….dont know the name of the set coz the sticker on the box fell off during my move). Black scalloped square cut with my nestie dies and cuttlebug. Ribbon, from stash and believe it or not, I just had that bit left…..used all of it on this card.

Crafty JC challenge this time was to use one patterned paper, two colours (brown and pink) and three embelishments. I do have white in the card too, but its a neutral so I hope its ok. The three embellies are the flower, button and the  tag.

I started off with this card but its not to my satisfaction. I am going to work on it for a few more days coz there’s a whole month for the deadline. I hope to come up with something better. Lets wait and see. For now I am linking this to the site.

About Challenges……

Before Aug 2010, I’ve never participated in card challenges. I used to visit the many challenge sites but never made anything.  EVER.  I like to make my cards and layouts as and when I please, not worrying about deadlines and sketches and specific colours etc.  Another reason was that if I did made a card for a challenge, I didnt have a way of showing it to anybody…..because I was (notice the past tense) computer-challenged.

So why am I participating in challenges now………

—coz i want to nudge my creative limits, push it a bit out of the box, try a few different things than what I’m used to

—coz I want to learn to work with deadlines and sketches and specific colours etc

—coz i now have a blog where I can show my creations and I’m a little bit computer-savvy now

—coz I  am ready for challenges…….bring it on people……

I’ve decided to start small and do just a few challenges every week. I dont like combining challenges coz it complicates my mind, so I’m going to post for each challenge seperately.

Once again, the sketch, followed by the card……..

The ribbon was the starting point for this card—- that’s where I got the colours green, red and black. I used semi-circles for the scallops. Stamps are Autumn Leaves (flourish) and PTI (sentiment). This card looks a bit christmas-y coz of the colour choices, doesnt it? I used the ‘love’ sentiment to compliment the hearts on the ribbon.

This is the sketch and this is my interpretation……..

This is my very first time playing with Card Patterns challenge.

That’s a very, very, very old wood mounted stamp I bought eons ago. This is the biggest single stamp that i own. Ribbon and cardstock are local, flowers are from Itsy Bitsy(they came already bling-ed) and the yellow patterned paper is a left over from ‘Yaamini’s accordian album’ (check a few posts below for pics of the same).

Birthday Wishes

Stampin Up supplies. I dont own this stamp set. Someone once gave me some stamped images and these were the last of it.  Birthday Wishes for someone special……

This was the first card that i made for the PWCO Sunday Sketch challenge. But I dont like it. So it was rejected and I made another one.

Why did I not like it——

—the flower’s too big,

—the sentiment is kinda floating and for this card it doesnt work in the right bottom corner. It would have looked better centered in the middle beneath the flower.

—purple is not my fav colour.

Crumple technique

Another technique that I love to use in scrapbooks and cards is the ‘crumple’ technique. Just crush and crumple the piece of paper that you want to focus on, un-crumple it, rub assorted inks over the ridges and glue it down. What you may want to remember is to NOT smear the glue all along the back of the paper, because you will end up losing the wonderful peaks and valleys in the paper. Just apply some strong glue to the four corners and the centre. If your cardstock is thick enough and can hold its own  then you could raise it up with dimensional dots.

As for the papers used in this card…..I have absolutely no idea who the manufacturer is. Sorry folks!

My daughter requested an accordian album for her best friends birthday. As usual I obliged but with a condition. I refused to do pink. These little seven year olds are obessed with pink and purple….so much so that i cant stand the sight of these two colours anymore. So I chose colours from the other end of the spectrum. I went with black and yellow. Turned out pretty good, I think. My daughter loved it and so did her friend.

The patterned papers is Crayon Box’s Palette of colours. Black cardstock is a local buy, stamps are assorted picks from Michaels, punches are by Carl and the corrugated yellow flowers are from Itsy Bitsy.

PWCO Sunday Sketch #47

Here’s my take on the PWCO SS #47.  This is my first time playing with their challenge.

The two pinks – the flowers and the ribbon- are actually the same shade of pink, but they show up different in the pic. Wonder why??? Maybe coz the ribbon has some sheen on it? Dunno!

Ribbon, felt flowers and cardstock are from my local craft store. The patterned paper is from Papermania’s stack of papers (sorry forgot the name of the stack).
