Craft class at school

It has been a while since I posted. Did not realise that I’ve already posted 300 times. Really!!! I couldnt believe it myself.

In between exams and end of year stuff for both kids, general lack of crafting time and the oppressive heat in Chennai, I havent had the enthu to post much. Saw Shobana’s post yesterday and it sorta pushed me to post too. Thanks for the impetus Shobana.

Paperz! is getting ready for a Workshop/Exhibition/Sale of our handmade creative products on the 20th and 21st of April, between 10 am- 7 pm, at  Sri Parvati Gallery, Eldams Road, Chennai.

So if you live in the Chennai area, please do stop by.

The workshops are open to everyone, ages 7 and up. We will be making cards, gift boxes/bags/envelopes, photo frames, 12×12 scrapbook pages etc. There are four workshops in all, spread over the two days and all four will feature different pojects. Please call either Shobana (98410 49172) or me (99404 00633) for details about the workshops.

Some of the things that kept me occupied over the past few months were………………………..

Paperz! conducted two craft classes for students at my children’s school. One was part of Paper Art class for 8th and 9th graders. We made two cards, one notecard and one gift envelope.

The other class was for fifth graders and we made paper bead bracelets for the school Project Day. Here are the finished bracelets……

We had very little time for both the sessions and therefore had to stick to simple, CAS style projects. Next year hopefully we will graduate to more elaborate projects.

Glad to be back. Stay cool……….

Birthday Banner

Its been a while……I know.

Been a bit busy ‘not-creating’ and just basking in mommy/family-related duties.

Happy to be back to blogging. So lets get down to business……shall we…….

Paperz! got an order to make a birthday banner for two little boys who share a birthday month. Their parents wanted to adorn a big wall in their house with this banner on the day of the party. The mom picked a bunch of 12 x 12 papers of her choice from my collection of 12 x 12’s for the banner and gave us lots of inputs on the design of the banner itself. She wanted it to be bright, colourful, with lotsa ribbons and hats and cupcakes and ice creams etc on the banner. She wanted it to be sturdy so she could use it every year. And it had to be big so as to make a statement.

Here’s the end result……

And I am happy to say that she liked it too.

Above are the names of the two boys. Shapes cut using the classic scallops and classic square & circle Spellbinders dies.

Below is the HAPPY banner………………..

Hats, cupcakes, ice cream cone —– all were hand drawn and cut. Flourishes on the background paper are Lifestyle Crafts die. MS punches, PTI dies were used for adding pretty edges to the triangle. The triangle itself is big – 8 1/2 inches by 11. The mom picked Lilybee’s line of patterned papers and that’s what I’ve used on the triangles.

Ribbons are an assortment of local and US purchase. Turned out pretty good, even if I say so myself.

Happy customer = Happy me

Princess Riya 6×8 mini

Baby Riya’s mother wanted a pretty baby book for her daughter’s baby pics. So I used MME’s Stella Rose and Everyday Tango papers which Shobana shared with me.

4th Dec 2012 248

Spellbinders and PTI Mat Stack dies on the cover and also on the inside pages. The doily is another recent purchase from Karuna.

4th Dec 2012 251

KI Memories journaling tags that I purchased from Four Minutes to Four is a brilliant buy. I cant stop using them. The stork and the baby- courtesy Spellbinders. I cut them, embossed them and chalked them. I also love them!!!

4th Dec 2012 249

The square die on the right- also Spellbinders, bought from Kavita. I wasnt very impressed with this die at first, but then after I cut the cardstock, I embossed it and distressed it and BOY! did I love the results. Fabulous buy.

PTI and MME stamps used in this album. I love PTI stamps but with the MME stamps, I’m having a love/hate relationship. Why, you ask? That’s coz MME stamps work best with pigment ink (which I dont have many of). I love my StampinUp! inks…… and I have 20 of them……..but not much of use when I have to use MME stamps (whose images I love…..some of the cutest and trendiest designs).

My two bits for today.

Happy 50th Birthday 8×8 album

‘A gift for someone special, who just turned 50’……………..was the request of the customer. She wanted something simple and  masculine. An album which would incorporate the many quotations that she painstakingly searched and printed  out for us, making our job so much easier. She also gave us ample pictures to choose from.

My favourite page was the cover page. Take a look………………….

Simple, elegant and classic……..

Summer of 2012 I purchased a pack of 100 Basic Grey sheets for an unbelievable price at Archivers. This entire album uses those papers, most of which are single sided higher gsm papers. The papers are from many different lines, too many to list actually.

Thanks people for stopping by.

My brother is an avid photographer who takes awesome photos. He’s also a shopper of all the jing-bang-shebang paraphernalias associated with the hobby.

He got me this wonderful gift…………………

4th Dec 2012 449

Amazing…….isint it. The photo booth folds up very nicely into the attatched bag for easy storage.

He has been telling me that I need one for the longest time. I kept telling him that I was happy taking pics of my work outside in the garden.

And then he up and got me this.

And I love my new photo booth/tent. I can take photos at night, during the day…..and any other time in between……without having to worry about adequate lighting. Perfect.

Thanks P, for this awesome gift. You are the best. Love ya!

School Project cards 3

The last of the lot…………………………

Back to album posts from tomorrow.

School Project cards 2

Once again very, very simple cards. All made for my son’s art project.

The two blue frames were a gift from Priya Sivaraj. Thanks Priya, they were perfect for this card. Stamp is PTI’s Embellishments, white ink on navy blue cs, hand cut. The ‘U’ is Marisa alphabet die by Quickutz.

The rose die is by Quickutz. This was one of the first dies that I bought, more than 7-8 years ago……..back when I used to use the QK Squeeze tool to cut my dies. I still have my pink squeeze tool and I try to use it whenever I can.

Cards made for a school project

Summer home-work for my son involved making 10-15 greeting cards. These cards were made in August and I so totally forgot to post this. My son’s contribution to making these cards was gluing some of the pieces. That’s all. Lets just say craft and him are a long ways away. They are most definitely not friends. I dont think they were being marked for this, so I felt less guilt about being the one making these cards.

Here are some of them…….

Very simple and CAS. And since I have to make the most of this jackpot of finding pics of 15 cards…………..you’ll see them in three different posts.

That’s all for today. Stay tuned for more……………

Priya

Finally……..cards on the menu!

Made a few cards recently…… to use up the scraps actually.

Here’s one that uses Crate Paper scraps…………………….

Shobana had made this above card as a CAS Valentines card. A customer picked it coz she loved the heart border at the bottom……only she wanted more ‘stuff’ on it. So I embellished it further with the butterfly paper and ‘Miss U’ stickers etc.

My husband wanted a few Wedding cards……….this was one of the bunch that I made. Nestled it among the green leaves in my garden for the picture. I find the outside the best place to take pictures ….especially in the evenings, when the glare of the sun is gone but the brightness still remains.

What’s your best place to take pictures of your cards?

Crate paper 5×7 mini album

This album is made exclusively with Crate Paper’s beautiful papers and embellishments. Very bright and cheery looking. It was for a tween girl, a gift for her birthday.

Have a look……………………..

More albums are being made here at home, so I will have lot more to show you in the coming days………

Paperz! has a show coming up in December and Shobana and I are getting stuff ready for it. In the midst of all that, we are scrambling to finish a few orders too.

I also want to mention a few people I have been ordering stuff from…………………

—– Washi tapes from Karuna– beautifully packed (I was very impressed)  and prompt service……she didnt wait for my payment, just mailed the goodies right away.

—–Fabric tapes and some washis too from Rachana– once again very good service and a special mention for accomodating a difficult request of mine which ended up in delayed payment. Thank you for your patience Rachana.

—– Dies and paper pad from Priya Sivaraj– since Priya lives so close to my house I got to visit her and pick up my goodies too. Let her know what you want and she will get it for you as soon as she can. She added a few quilled ear-rings as gifts for my daughter and a vinyl sticker sheet for me. Many thanks Priya.

Please do support our fellow crafter friends, who go to the trouble of ordering and stocking and generally doing the difficult work so that we have it easy.

Have a nice day everyone!
